Hamnamura Mangetu(Author of Germanium Nights)

Hanamura Mangetu

< Author of Germanium Nights >

After completing middle school at a welfare facility run by a Roman Catholic monastery, he wandered the length and breadth of Japan       on a motorcycle, working a wide variety of jobs. When he was about     30, a travel magazine published his journal of a midwinter tour of Hokkaido, and with the money he received he set out to write a     novel. In 1989 his novel "Goddo burei su monogatari" (Shueisha)     won the 2nd Subaru Prize for New Writers, while "Minazuki" (Kodansha) won the 19th Yoshikawa Eiji Prize for New Writers in 1998, and "Germanium Nights" took the 119th     Akutagawa Prize. Sex, violence, music, motorcycles--he is a prolific writer of dense, fast-paced portrayals of the vitality, irritations and conflicts that the youth have. His distinctive ethical views, along     with his bold writing challenges basic values, and leaves a great      impact on readers.
